Six Degrees Of Separation - Process Shot Round #1 & 2 + Concept

The Most Recent Round Of Images.

Shot to the specifications of the ones Jessi and I chose from our test shoot in studio. 

VISUAL REFERENCES:

The use of six steps to reference the six degrees.
Set the world on fire title.
Delicate balance: The ecosystem referenced by the balance of the globe resting on the edge of the gas can.

TYPE REFERENCE:

Replace the text on the gas can with our title.

POSTER:
Match alone falling towards the globe.

* Note from Tyler to make sure this stands out as different but still relatable to the cover of the DVD.


FRONT COVER:


Good looking healthy earth.
Globe with Gas Tank.
Match could be suspended with fishing line?
Older worn out globe.

Background: Stone: Dirty concrete. (Light & Dark depending on lighting conditions)

Background: Crushed rocks and debris.

Background: Sand and soil. 

Background: Dead Flora& Fauna (Possible but not probable)

BACK COVER:

Gas can turned on its side.
This replaced the old idea of showing a gas pump.
Maybe in a puddle?
No puddle just a single drip of water hanging there?


INSIDE THE CASE (TRAY SIDE):

* When you pick up the earth image / disc you'll revel this.
Charred flaming husk of earth.
Image underneath the disc.

INSIDE THE CASE (DISC):
Earth on fire and in distress.
Flames go above the disc edge and match up with the charred husk tray image.

Edgar Allan Poe - iPad / iBook Cover Set Final Deliverables

Edgar Allan Poe E-Book Presentation

While working on these e-book covers I believe I gained a better understanding of the creative thought process that goes into making a successful set of covers. The formula if you will for what it takes to find meaningful and intelligent design work. In no way did I achieve that in my own work this time around. In fact on many levels I would say these designs failed and I'm glad they did. I have learned a lot more from it happening the way it has. I have to working with templates like the iPad here and seeing our designs in such a device as an iPad is really exciting. I'm looking forward to working much, much more these applications and devices in the next few years. 

The formal process of shooting the designs in context and replacing the images in those images with digital versions was a completely new experience but an enlightening one. Using that method really picked up the quality of my photographed images. After watching a lot of the presentations today I realized that you have to be aware of what your model is wearing. 

Changes: I will be fixing the clock timeline idea after studying some information graphics dealing directly with time. I will also be exploring making the noose in The Black Cat out of the negative space in the tree. 

I would like to thank everyone for their great feedback today. Though exhausted, sick, and with no sleep you guys made it enjoyable.

Edgar Allan Poe - iPad E-Book Cover Set Updated

Here is the set of my three Edgar Allan Poe e-Book covers together in context using the iPad.

Concept: The shape in the top left corner of each cover represents the mental stability of the antagonist in each story. Where the form peeks it represents a period of violence and mental instability. To reinforce the concept of the circle as the start and end of the book there is a system of labels to represent the face of a clock. At the top of the face there is a small dot showing the beginning and end of the novel. 

Imagery: The imagery itself is setting based. The location framed in each cover is where they were left after the murder. The goal here was not to show images of the victims but rather to elude to them. 

The Cask of Amontillado The victim is buried in the wall. The yellow square represents the light burning off of the touch he had dropped behind the wall with his victim before the final brick was placed. 

The Black Cat The cat is hung from a tree outside of the house. The noose hanging from the tree represents this death. 

The Tell-Tale Heart The victim is murdered and buried under the floorboards. The red crack in the floorboards signals that something has occurred and is now out of place.

Edgar Allan Poe - Updated Book Covers

The three cover sections together to show the variation. This isn't as on spot as I want it to be but the circle represent the stories timeline from start to finish. The sections removed represent the level of violence carried out by the murder. 

The selective text that has been sliced in half was chosen because it represents the antagonist in the story. I use this for Amontillado because I believe that the alcohol played a key role. Many people believe that stories like the Cask of Amotillado were warnings against the sin of Alcoholism. 

The imagery used is based on the location in the story where the body is walled up, dumped, or left to hang. The highlight select aspects of the image is to reinforce the notion that something has happened.
